MGW Launches Companion Publication, DGW

Next MGW issue to hit the stands under new format November 15, 2005!

Exciting things are happening on the West Coast in publishing. Guess What Media, the parent company of MGW has announced its plans for the expansion of its flagship publication to become a monthly West Coast regional newsmagazine. An icon in the Northern California Gay & Lesbian market for 28 years, MGW made the transition in 2005 from a newspaper to a full-gloss magazine. The publication now expands its page count, content and focus to feature the best of Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland and Seattle.

“People on the West Coast travel – a lot”, says Jeffry Davis, Publisher of MGW Newsmagazine. “Sacramento has always been perfectly located to reach markets from San Diego to Vancouver, San Francisco to Nevada. We’re right in the center of it all, an hour or so from all these places. People in Northern California constantly visit these cities, looking for GLBTI-friendly products and services so they can enjoy the flavor of each local community. And of course people in the other cities travel here as well. MGW Newsmagazine strives to serve this growing market by focusing on the grass-roots level in each community throughout the region.” The publication presently reaches 30,000 readers with plans to double this figure by January 2006.

Look for the launch of the San Francisco and Seattle sections of MGW Newsmagazine on November 15, 2005 when the first monthly edition of the magazine is released. “We will be doing investigative reporting, local features and profiles and coverage of issues that matter to people in each community”, remarks Editorial Director Matthew Burlingame. “Fashion, entertainment, nightlife and travel are augmented by in-depth coverage of politics, local news and community issues. We want to be the publication on the coffee table that people read cover-to-cover, with something for everyone.” Professional writers, editorial and marketing teams in Seattle and San Francisco now join the MGW family in Sacramento. “With our new monthly format, we have the opportunity to be much more in-depth with our coverage. We have always taken great pride in the fact that we write – we don’t just reprint others’ press releases. Now we can truly excel and give each topic the focus it deserves and that in these communities expect”.

Joining the Guess What Media family for Halloween 2005 is Dad Guess What or DGW Magazine. A publication designed for and about Gay men, it features lifestyle content, photo galleries, adult-oriented themes and feature articles targeting this high-income demographic. Distributed in locations such as nightclubs and stores frequented by adult Gay male readers of all ages, the publication will initially reach over 15,000 people on a monthly basis with plans for rapid growth. “This is the place where Gay men find entertaining material. Designed for the adult reader, it provides semi-erotic content in a non-threatening manner along with commentary and features that appeal directly to the needs of Gay men”, says Davis. “It’s all about fun!”
