About MGW Newsmagazine
Established in 1978 as a
bimonthly Newspaper, MGW was modeled after Sacramento’s leading
daily, the Sacramento Bee. Since that time MGW has consistently and
reliably reported and informed the Gay and Lesbian community and
their friends in California’s State Capitol and Northern California
for over 25 years.
MGW has been the recipient of numerous journalistic and photography
awards from the Gay & Lesbian Press Association as well as being
recognized for services by groups such as the Human Rights
Commission. Through the years MGW has also received proclamations
from the City of Sacramento, the County of Sacramento and the
California Assembly.
PROGRESSION
In June of 2005 under the direction of new Publishers, MGW Newspaper
was transformed into MGW Newsmagazine, a monthly full-color, gloss
publication issues the fifteenth of each month. MGW features
politics and commentary, interviews, local and national news,
feature articles and investigative pieces. Highlighting the West
Coast's Progressive lifestyle are sections on automotive, gardening,
home improvement, fashion, entertainment, travel and technology as
well as reviews of restaurants, theater, opera, film, art, books and
music. Photo spreads and special sections detail events,
personalities and culture. With a continued focus on quality of
reporting and writing, MGW is the place to read about the issues
that affect one's local community as well as the greater society in
which we live.
EXPANSION
With marketing through television commercials, print advertising and
special events, MGW has clearly become the top choice for readers
along the West Coast and beyond! After only one month under the new
format our readership more than tripled and the response from
advertisers was astounding. With such a high demand for our product
we executed plans for expansion that include increased distribution
to all the major cities across California, Oregon, Washington, and
Nevada. When completed, the expansion of MGW will cover markets from
San Diego all the way to Vancouver, BC … from San Francisco to Salt
Lake City!
In each location, MGW continues its tradition of grass-roots
community involvement, supporting events and charities with a focus
on issues that affect each community's local needs. We maintain a
staff in each market of independent writers, photographers and
reporters who are an integral part of their own community. We may be
a regional publication, but we are determined to provide our readers
with information that matters to them in an entertaining,
informative and meaningful way. As we progress and grow, our basic
commitment remains …
At MGW, we investigate, we interview, we review, we write. We
don’t just reprint others' press releases!
